2023 Floating Home Champion - Kelly McCloskey

Kelly McCloskey
President, Leo Stradiotti presented the Floating Home Champion Award at the 2023 AGM in Victoria. The Floating Home Champion Award was established in 2017 to honor individuals or organizations who have made significant contributions to advocating for and furthering the mission of the association. This encompasses individuals with a notable history of involvement with the association, as well as allied service providers. This year, the association awarded Past President, Kelly McCloskey with the award.
President Stradiotti made the following presentation at the meeting:
Kelly McCloskey is a consultant in the BC forest sector. An experienced, results-oriented leader, he has led dozens of forest industry branding and strategic marketing efforts in his career.
Kelly created and lead major US and Canada initiatives created to increase wood use in non-res construction and was key in kick-starting the mass timber revolution, including ensuring that the iconic Richmond Olympic Oval was built with BC wood. His campaigns have also been instrumental in starting the conversation about using wood as a means to combat greenhouse gas emissions to curb climate change.
Kelly holds a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and an MBA from UBC. In 2010 he was awarded the Distinguished Professional Forester Award by the Association of BC Forest Professionals (their highest award).
Kelly and Sandy bought a floating home at Ladner Reach Marina in 2015 and immediately became members of the Floating Home Association. That same year, Kelly joined the advocacy committee for the association. In 2016 Kelly was nominated to the board of directors as Vice-President. He was elected president the following year, where he championed the interests of the floating home community with unwavering dedication. Kelly stepped down from the board in 2022 but continues to play an active volunteer role on the advocacy committee.
Kelly has been active in many other groups tertiary to the FHA including the Ladner Sediment Group, the River Road Property Owners Group. He has served the floating home community with great tenacity, enthusiasm, and commitment, treating it less like a volunteer role, and very much like a job. On behalf of the Floating Home Association of BC, it is my honour to present Kelly with the Floating Home Champion Award for 2023.
