Kelly McCloskey with Vicki Huntington
The Floating Homes Champion Award recognizes individuals or organizations who have been significant advocates for and have advanced the mission of the association – which is to promote and protect the sustainability of floating homes, our communities and our lifestyle.
The first recipient of FHA’s Floating Homes Champion Award will be award to someone who is no stranger to most of you here.
local Ladner resident, this FHA Champion was first elected to Delta Municipal Council in 1993 and was reelected in the four subsequent municipal elections. In 2008, she ran for and was elected to the BC Provincial Legislature to become the first independent MLA elected in 60 years.
Throughout her 25-year political career, this FHA Champion has been a strong advocate for floating home developments and floating home owners in Ladner and throughout the province. All you have to do is google her name + Hansard + Floating Homes and you can find ample evidence of her public support, but what you can’t see are the many dozens of letters and meetings she’s facilitate and led on our behalf with government, across a broad range of issues such as dredging and water lot renewals but also individual floating home concerns such as moorage rates and bank financing.
Of course, I’m talking about our very-recently retired MLA, Vicki Huntington – who I know has expressed an interest in living in a floating home. Please join me in thanking and congratulating our first-official recipient of the Floating Homes Champion Award – Vicki Huntington.
